Laser Skin Resurfacing

Improve the skin's appearance with laser skin resurfacing

Your skin is exposed to a variety of harmful chemicals, pollutants, and debris, which can damage it considerably. After some time, with age and increased exposure, your skin loses its vitality, looking dull, tired, and old.

Laser skin resurfacing is a specialized cosmetic procedure that can reverse the effects of age and skin damage, effectively restoring your youthful and beautiful skin. At Renew MD Facial Aesthetics, we are one of the leading providers of laser skin resurfacing in Southlake, Texas. Our lead physician, Dr. Alexis Gordon, M.D., F.A.C.S. has years of experience providing the treatment.

How does the treatment work?

You deserve skin that is soft, elastic, and full. When your skin cells are old, they slow down the production of essential proteins and growth factors, this results in the formation of facial lines, wrinkles, and folds.

Our laser skin resurfacing treatment has the power to rejuvenate dermal cells by stimulating the production of important proteins like elastin and collagen. The procedure can be used to address minor-to-mild lines and wrinkles. The heat from the laser tightens your skin cells and increases the production of collagen and elastin. Over a few weeks, you’ll notice your skin becoming tighter and fuller. The laser heat also tightens the skin around the pores, making large pores smaller.

Laser skin resurfacing benefits

With the laser skin resurfacing treatment, you can preserve your youthful skin for years. At Renew MD Facial Aesthetics, we use the non-ablative Aerolase Nd: YAG laser, which doesn’t slough the skin as other ablative lasers do. Instead, Aerolase uses laser heat to renew your dermal cells by:

  • Destroying the damaged dermal cells which cause blemishes
  • Suppressing inflammation at the cellular level
  • Killing any bacteria that are present in the skin, which lead to acne outbreaks
  • Improving the production of essential skin proteins and growth factors
  • Reducing sebum production
  • Triggering wound healing response in the skin

The laser also facilitates the quick regrowth of new skin cells. When this happens, old dermal cells with damage will disappear, leaving behind beautiful, smooth, and blemish-free skin.

Laser skin resurfacing is great to remove all types of dermatological blemishes, such as:

  • Sun damage
  • Brown spots
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Patchy skin & uneven skin texture
  • Melasma
  • Acne scars

Before & After
Laser Skin Resurfacing

A gentle way to treat non-cancerous skin growths

Abnormal growths on the skin are not only a medical problem, but they can cause a lot of cosmetic distress, as well. But the truth is, not every skin growth is dangerous and you can easily get rid of them with the right treatment. This is where laser skin resurfacing helps. Laser skin resurfacing can be used to treat:

  • Keratosis pilaris
  • Moles
  • Freckles
  • Skin tags
  • Lesions
  • Liver spots
  • Birthmarks

The intense laser heat shrivels the growths located on the surface of the skin, causing them to become scar tissue which then falls-off in a few days. Additionally, the production of collagen, elastin, and new skin cells heals the damage caused by skin growths, allowing your skin to look flawless in a short time.

How is laser skin resurfacing performed?

At our Southlake med spa, we start the process with a comprehensive evaluation of your skin. We identify the exact nature of your dermatological problem and design a treatment plan that ensures the most effective treatment.

On the day of the treatment, we apply a numbing lotion on your skin. The laser, while gentle, can be mildly painful for some, but the numbing agent makes the experience comfortable.

Dr. Gordon uses the state-of-the-art and super precise Aerolase Nd: YAG laser for the procedure. This laser allows us to provide the most focused treatment, ensuring that nearby healthy tissue remains safe. This non-ablative laser is gentle (it has a 300-microsecond pulse duration) and doesn’t cause your skin to feel irritated during the treatment.

Advantages of the Aerolase laser

  • It prevents bleeding, which sometimes occurs when ablative lasers are used
  • It poses a limited threat of infection, risk, or complications

Depending on the severity of your condition, the treatment may take between 30-45 minutes to complete. After the procedure, we gently massage your face with a soothing ointment, which helps reduce the swelling, pain, and tenderness.

Post-treatment care

You can return to work immediately after the procedure, but remember to follow these skincare tips:

  • Moisturize regularly and hydrate your skin
  • Avoid exposing your skin to the sun for a few months (as this can cause discoloration and burns)
  • Use cool compressions if you want to relieve any discomfort
  • Don’t schedule any chemical peels or other laser treatments for at least 2-3 weeks
  • Avoid using abrasive make-up and choose gentle products instead
  • Don’t go swimming and avoid working out heavily for a week (sweat can cause infection)
  • Don’t pick at your skin or any scabs or scar tissues – these will fall off soon

Follow-up laser skin resurfacing treatments

The laser skin resurfacing treatment offers progressive benefits, therefore the results can’t be seen immediately, but will be noticeable gradually. Over the next few months, you’ll notice that your skin feels softer, looks toned, has fewer scars, and is fuller.

These results can last for more than a year. After this, depending on how you care for your skin, age and pollution may slowly take their toll again, and you may need a follow-up session. Dr. Gordon and our team of experts are always here to help you with laser skin resurfacing. Contact us for more details.
